New Toyota iQ
This year sees the launch of the new Toyota iQ on British roads and the Japanese car maker hope that this will be the year of the micro car.
This little car sports a 1.0 litre engine and Toyota are hoping to fulfills two goals. Firstly to take on the Smart and secondly to make up for last year when Toyota posted their first loss-making year since 1941.
The iQ is the smallest four-seater in production (though it doesn’t look like the most comfortable seating for the tall in the back) and has the Japanese compact design and style all over it. Looks wise it’s a gem. It looks like something the lady drivers will call “cute” and does make me want to reach for my iPod.
Toyota say the new iQ will shoot along the motorway comfortably with a max speed of around 85mph though I’m not too sure I’d feel secure next to the lorries. Or the vans. Or the normal sized cars. But then feeling manly isn’t the point with this car – it’s about the economy with boasts of 60mpg.
What do you think, will the new Toyota iQ be a hit? Or is there a line where small cars become too small? Is this the right car for expensive-petrol times or, as more manufacturers look to line up micro-cars, have they misjudged the market?
